Christy Frazier, owner of The Pearl nightclub, has offered us the use of a third of an acre near her club at the corner of First and Main--a prime location in Springfield located in Downtown Jacksonville. The plots here house an array of vegetables and fruits. There are empty plots currently available for member use. We recently repaired the crumbled front retaining wall of the site, with the help of some individual donors. There is plenty of construction to finish, and we're seeking donations of funds, materials, and volunteer labor to help. This vegetable garden is part of the Jacksonviile Community Gardens project, organized by Jacksonville Urban Gardeners. We are a non-profit organization located in northeast FL. Our mission is to preserve a local food movement in the Jacksonville area by building community gardens, and to educate children and adults about organic food, local agriculture and sustainable living. The community garden enhances the security of the neighborhood by beautifying blighted property, and offers neighbors a safe place to gather. We welcome everyone so please contact us if you are interested in a plot, starting a community garden in your neighborhood, or would like to donate materials/funds.
