old Allegheny Community Gardens

Olde Allegheny Community Gardens were started in the early 1980's. We have around 40 plots and some gardeners have multiple plots. We garden organically. Individual plots are around 10 x 20 feet. The plots are maintained year to year by the same person/household. Cost is $30 per year. The garden is open to the public as a walkthru and benches are provided. Gardeners are expected to help in the communal areas i.e. outside the fences, pathways, sidewalks. We have water available through a loft building next door. In August of 2008 we were recognized by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society with the Community Greening Award.
