Gardener volunteer work-day

W. Broad Street YMCA Community Garden (

Members are required to volunteer a set number of hours along with their plot lease. Each month there is a work day set for everyone to come together to get special projects done. This month we'll be working on finishing spreading the mulch, burying the irrigation lines, staking the orchard trees, planting seeds in the salad & pizza gardens, and re-working the herb spiral.

Sami Rasouli, an Iraqi-American, left Iraq in the late 1970s and lived in the Twin Cities area for more than 17 years. In November 2004, nearly 30 years after leaving, Sami returned to Iraq to help rebuild his country.
